Welcome to the Studio!

We moved into our home just over 4 years ago. Being from Ontario, we were looking for specific things that we used to have back home. Such as an attached garage, as in Alberta the older homes built in our town have back alley access to the garage. The next important thing was a driveway. We like to park our vehicles close to the house for ease of access and peace of mind. The next thing on the list was bedrooms upstairs. This we compromised on because when we walked downstairs into the completely unfinished basement, I fell instantly in love. With a window....

A [larger than any dang window I've ever seen in a basement], window. Check it out.

This window was large. I knew from the second I saw it, we were sold. I mean the only thing better would be a walk out. But Josh had kindly denied my request. LOL

I knew that with Josh's contracting background, that we could some day make this space a little studio of my dreams. When we moved in, our daughter wasn't even 2 yet. So we had one spare bedroom upstairs that I turned into my office for the first few years of living here. Then we stared construction on the basement. Little by little we've spent hours working away down there. And honestly, its still not done. I'm not sure about you guys but I can have about 50 projects half done on the go at one single time. It's quite terrifying. LOL

We need to finish up the trim, and a spare bathroom that is plumed-in, but is currently housing old baby clothes and baby equipment. I'm sure everyone has that one room in their home. At least I hope they do! *Insert LOL crying face*

Any who ya'll. If you've been into my home or the studio, you will know that I change things ALL THE TIME. I get incredibly bored and constantly switch things up. Why? I'm blaming it on being a work from home momma, not getting much change day to day. What is now a cute little toy room for the kiddos used to be the spare room for guests to stay. This room just wasn't working studio wise, as it is on the opposite side of the house and is more of a dark room, even though it has a fairly large window as well. I would have to use my studio lights in that room, and as some of you know, that bad boy is massive and I could only get about 1/3 of the umbrella through the door.

It dawned on my last week that I can move the bed from that room out into the open space when my office used to sit. I previously had this small little cube to shoot in, but now I have created this little studio apartment type feel and I cannot get over it. It is SO much easier to conduct sessions! Here is a little peak.

It used to be so cramped, & I would also have a TON of editing and cropping to do with my office being in the background of many of my shots. Non photo clients might be a little bit confused coming downstairs to find a bed hanging out in the big open space now attached to our second family room & my make-shift office. But hey, the kids are loving it and casually bring all their toys over to play on the big comfy bed. How bad can it really be, except for the toys venturing put past the toy room..

Here is another peek...

Well there you go, you've seen my little slice of heaven, basement style.

Can you spot the unfinished trim? { To do list: number 31. }

Thinking of booking in?! .....

Come have a coffee and lets chat! I have also recently added many dresses to my maternity section. So if you are expecting soon, give me a shout! Styling is so very important for your sessions. That I'll dab into later in another blog post.

Until then my friends, have a wonderful week and thank you for reading!

Remember to stay wild, and never lose your sense of wonder.
